Term 2 Week 6

On Monday Miss R was away learning some new things.  We had Mrs M for the day.

We built landforms in the sandpit.  Then we tested if the landforms change when the wind blows or when it rains.  Here is what we discovered.

It blew half of the sand off the landforms. Brody S
When you blow it, it makes a hole. Mackenzie
It makes bumps.  Deagan

When it rains it shrinks and the sand goes off it.  Chloe
It goes all soggy.  Meaghan
It makes a hole in the mountain.  Hamish

This week we hunted for ten facts.  A fact is something that is true.  So ten facts are numbers that add up to 10.  If we can learn our ten facts we can solve all sorts of number problems.

We used 10 counters that had a red side and a blue side.  We dropped the ten counters and then counted how many were red and how many were blue.  If we had 6 blue counters and 4 red counters we had found the ten fact 6+4=10.  We discovered 11 different ways to make the number 10.

We worked with a partner to build numbers using tens and ones.  Miss R thinks we are doing a great job with place value.

On Thursday we had a creation morning.  We had to decide what we were going to make and what we would make it from.  After we had finished planning our creation we got to make it.  We used lots of different things to make our creations.  We used paint, paper, playdough and blocks.  It was great fun.

Yesterday we talked about all the different ways we use water.  We all drew a picture of a way we use water.

We are all looking forward to this weekend because it is a super long weekend.  We get to stay at home on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday!  So next week will be a super short week, and a busy one.

Make sure you keep an eye on our publishing blog.  There is some great examples of our landform models from last week.

Term 2 Week 5

Landforms, landforms and more landforms!

This week we made a collage of landforms.  We started with mountains......

Then we added hills and plains......
Then we finished it off with oceans and rivers.

After creating our landform collages we got our hands dirty making landforms from playdough. There was mountains, hills, volcanos, rivers and lakes, just to name a few.

On Tuesday Mrs P surprised us with a visit from a shark and a fish.  They looked like they were really swimming through our classroom but they were actually remote controlled balloons.  It was a very exciting morning!

What a great lesson this was.  We exercised our bodies, we exercised our minds and we got to enjoy God's beautiful creation. Three lessons in one!

The aim of this game was to be the first person to collect the right number of cubes for Miss R.  It was lots of fun playing out in the sun.

This week in computer we started learning about Microsoft Word.  Microsoft Word is a typing program where you can write words.  We played around with the font, the size and the font colour.

This week we read a book called 'Where's My Teddy?'.  There was a boy and a bear who got the teddy's mixed up.  They both got a fright when they saw each other.

Term 2 Week 4

This week we talked about landforms.  A landform is a big thing that covers the Earth.  Some landforms are hills, valleys, volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls, lakes, icebergs and rivers.

We went outside to see some of the landforms around our school.  We saw lots of hills and discovered that our town is in a valley.  We couldn't see the river but we know that there is a river in town.

This week has been all about our assembly.  We have been practicing and practising and practising!  This is us making the hats for our costumes.

OUR ASSEMBLY!

Today was the day!  We presented our assembly to the whole school.  We looked colourful and fantastic!  Everyone loved our story and our song.  Here are some photos of us performing.  We are superstars!

Miss R set up the video to record our wonderful performance but unfortunatly the memory card filled up just before the end!  Luckily we had recorded our practice the day before. Miss R has put the two videos together so you can see the whole assembly but the last part is very quiet because we didn't have the microphones when we were practicing.

Enjoy the show.

Term 2 Week 3

This week we learnt that our Earth is made from rocks and magma.  Magma is what lava is called when it is still inside the Earth.  We learnt that the Earth has a core, a mantle and a crust.  Some of the class made a big poster of the inside of the earth to go on our classroom wall.

Have a look at this short video if you want to see the Earth unwrapped.

Mums- Don't Look! Well, until after Mothers Day!  This Sunday is Mothers Day.  On Mothers Day we show our mums how special we think they are and thank them for all the things they do for us.  We have made a special card for our mums.

Our assembly item is coming up fast!  We will be doing it next Friday.  We have been very busy practising and making costumes.  We can't say anything else about it or we will ruin the surprise.  You will just have to come and see us next Friday.

We had our school photos takes this week. Everyone looked super smart!

Term 2 Week 1 and 2

Welcome to term 2!  We hope you all had a wonderful holiday.  This term we are going to learn about our wonderful Earth.  We have already been very busy.

In week 1 we shared our holiday news with a friend.  Then we moved around the circle and shared our news with someone different.

This term we have added a new literacy activity.  We are doing word work.  In word work we play with letters, sounds and words.  There are lots of fun activities we can do in word work.

We made our own 100 chart.  We coloured all the numbers and then had to put them on the chart.

We learnt that everything on our Earth can be put into two groups, natural and man made.  We went for a walk around the school to find some natural and man made things.  We discovered that there is more man made things around our school than there is natural.  Maybe that is because man made our school!

Zero the Hero came for our 50th day of school.  He told us we could count how many fingers and toes were in our class by counting by tens.  There were 280 fingers and 280 toes in our classroom.  Counting by tens was a much quicker way to find the answer.  Counting by ones would have taken us ages.

We made a stripey decoration for the disco.  The theme for our disco was spots and stripes.

This term we are going to be learning sight words.  Sight words are words that we have to learn by just looking at them.  Some of them have very tricky spellings so you can't sound them out.  Miss R has made a rainbow of sight words.  We are starting on purple and reading our way up the rainbow.  Everytime we get a colour right we get a new sticker on our rainbow.

In maths this week we were learning about patterns. Check out all the patterns we made in the classroom.

In Religion we have been talking about how God created the world.  We took a few minutes to go outside and enjoy some of God's wonderful creations.
